First Oink, now Onik

As you may have heard, the file-trading site Oink was shut down last week; a great disappointment to music lovers/snobs everywhere. But what you may not have heard is the news that hits a little closer to home: prolific local tagger ‘Onik’ has been sentenced to two years in prison for his widespread vandalism. I understand graffiti as art (the other day I was stopped at the train tracks at the Congress and St. John streets intersection, and some of the graffiti painted on the train was quite beautiful; I wished that the train was stopped somewhere so I could photograph it), but just writing your name all over town on people’s windows and doors is silly. What does that accomplish? Were his myspace friends that impressed?

In other news: how ’bout them Sox?

It’s a Piece of Cake

Considering all the time I spend looking at useless crap on the internet, I can’t believe that I missed this whole cake song phenomenon. Yes, it’s stupid, but I think this video is really funny. I was turned on to it’s existence by finding this movie on digg. In the link’s thread, I learned that this compilation of Internet memes was just a rip-off of this YTMND. In the YMTND animation, one of the the references I didn’t get was to a “cake song.” I searched, and came up with this wiki page, which is how I discovered the aforementioned video. All these movies a quite funny, and make a lot more sense once you’ve been clued in on their in-jokes. Anyway, here’s the original Lazytown (AKA cake song) YTMND and some good variations.

Nissa and I went shopping for Halloween costumes today.  I was looking for a bathrobe to complete my “The Dude” costume, and she was looking for a fancy dress to be a corpse bride.  Neither of us found what we were looking for, but I was hit with a burst of inspiration, and we’re going to have much better costumes than we originally planned.  Want to know what they are?  Well, I guess you’ll just have to come to our Halloween party (or wait for me to post some pictures to Flickr).

I’ve been a subscriber to eMusic since July of 2003.  Goodness, it’s been a long time.  I feel like my musical tastes have really changed.  Actaully, I should clarify; they have expanded, not changed.  I listen to a lot more indie rock than I would ever think of doing back in July of ’03, but I still countthe Rev. Gary Davis (the first artist I ever downloaded from eMusic) amoung the musicians I really enjoy.  Anyway, here’s the list of 90 tracks I downloaded for the month of October.  Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Nissa and I are at Merrill Memorial Library setting up a Ubuntu server so we can install Koha on it. Koha is an open source ILS (intergrated library system). Nissa hopes it will replace her library’s current ILS, which is out of date and no longer supported by its developer.

As you can see, I’ve installed and configured WordPress.  It will be a few days before I figure out how I want the site to appear.  It will also take me a while to add some interesting widgets and plugins.  But once everything is set, I’m sure you’ll find this to be a site you want to keep coming back to.
